Nekenaan Second Stage Housing (NSSH) is a Transitional Housing service that provides safe, affordable, temporary housing to Aboriginal women with or without children. It offers support to assist in obtaining permanent, safe, affordable housing. Nekenaan is an alcohol, drug, and violence-free environment. No men, partners, or ex-partners are allowed in the leased units. Nekenaan is located in a newly renovated six storey building that is on a major bus route. There are 24 furnished units consisting of: 10 single occupancy units that include a fridge and microwave oven and 14 double occupancy units that include a fridge, stove and microwave oven. The units are design to suit a single individual or families of up to 5 people. Each resident floor has laundry facilities, telephones (local line) and a common area that has a dining/kitchen area and a lounge area. Nekenaan provides security features such as, an enter phone system, resident only elevator access and emergency on-call service. |
