Anduhyaun Shelter
Our Mandate: To support Aboriginal women and children in their efforts to maintain cultural identity, their self esteem, and their economic, physical, and spiritual well being.
The Shelter accommodates 18 women and children who are victims of violence.
Purpose: Your main focus will be on Shelter clients. You will be responsible for responding to crisis situations, as required.
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Anduhyaun Shelter and the Shelter Coordinator, you will provide culturally appropriate services/supports to our clients and their children by providing: counselling [crisis], advocacy, intakes, departures, goal planning, safety planning and referrals; follow VAW guidelines and adhere to the Ministry Service Contract applicable to delivery of service.
Skill Sets:
- Possess Social Work Degree or other social service degree or diploma.
- Knowledge, cultural sensitivity and significance for First Nations diversity
- Must have two years experience in a Shelter and/or Transitional Housing Environment
- Initiative
- Must be able to work independently, as required
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills
- Current Child First Aid-Valid CPR certificate and Police Check
- Be a strong team player
- Ability to work in a high stress environment
- Ability to speak an Aboriginal Language would be an asset
- Working knowledge of Child Protection Agencies Protocol and other relevant Legislative Acts such as Section 72 of the Child and Welfare Act, Social Housing Reform Act, and VAW Guidelines
- Valid Ontario Drivers License preferred
